Former Rockwall City Councilman Scott Milder files paperwork to challenge Lt. Gov. Patrick in GOP primary

School voucher opponent has said certain groups “want to privatize public education and get their hands on some of that public money."

Scott Milder, a former Rockwall City Council member, has filed the paperwork for a potential challenge to Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick in the GOP primary.

There was no immediate comment from Milder but an official announcement is expected later this month. A spokesman for Patrick declined to comment late Wednesday.

Milder is a North Texas businessman, former councilman and a longtime public school advocate and co-founder of the well-respected group Friends of Texas Public Schools.

"There are significantly deep-pocketed individuals here in Texas and across the country who are pushing for (school) vouchers really hard," Milder told WFAA in DFW earlier this year as the battle over vouchers was once again playing out at the Capitol. "They want to privatize public education and get their hands on some of that public money."
