Sen. José Rodríguez elected new Senate Democratic Caucus Chairman
"Democrats have great ideas and a vision for the state, and I look forward to working with my colleagues to improve our schools, access to health care, and economic opportunity for all Texas families," Rodriguez said.
After
Sen. Kirk Watson, D-Austin, said
last week he was ready to “pass the baton” and step down as Texas
Senate Democratic Caucus Chairman, Sen. José Rodríguez emerged on Monday as the new chair. Watson said he
was stepping aside now to give the next chairman “plenty of time to prepare for
the upcoming election year, convention, and then the next session."
“We
are blessed to live in a state with abundant resources, both in terms of
natural resources and our people. In recent years, the state has experienced
economic growth where we’ve been fortunate to operate without a looming budget
deficit,” said Rodriguez, D-El Paso. “However, this success has yet to be felt
by everyday Texans who are working harder to make ends meet.”
“Democrats

my colleagues to improve our schools, access to health care, and economic opportunity
for all Texas families,” Rodriguez said.
“Sen.
José Rodríguez knows that Texas families are working hard to make ends meet,
build a future, and get ahead,” said Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa. “From humble roots
as the son of migrant farm workers, José learned the strength and grit of our
communities. He knows they deserve the best for their elected leaders.”
